We deliver Primero (Protection-Related Information Management), a mature, open-source and web-based platform that lets human services, humanitarian, and development workers handle protection-related data with features that facilitate case management, incident monitoring, and family tracing and reunification, to you in Canada through our partner Salus Inc.
Originally funded by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and national government partners, Primero is a progressive web and mobile application. It offers community-level social service professionals a user-friendly and scalable data management system using modern technology, field-proven tools and global best practices from thousands of users in 60+ countries.
More than 10,000 human services workers around the world rely on Primero to support their case work and monitoring every day. Giving human services workers the digital tools they need not only helps them deliver better services, it also helps to build their prestige and shine a light on the critical role they play in the community. Data about their daily work contributes valuable evidence to advocacy initiatives. Better data management systems help demonstrate the importance and reach of their work, and can be used to convince policy makers to invest more in the human services workforce. Primero recognizes that the only way to increase impact is by strengthening the human services workforce.
Digital Public Good
The Digital Public Goods Alliance has recognized Primero as an open-source technology that follows best practices, respects data privacy, and holds high relevance towards attaining the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Primero’s open source license means that the platform is free to use, and that source code is open for public review and collaboration.
Eliminating exclusive access and control of the system source code also enforces the security of sensitive beneficiary data, allowing partners and stakeholders to inspect and critique how the system works and how data is handled. Such transparency, in turn, increases trust and partner buy-in. Therefore, by leveraging open source technology, we can implement an information management system in a cost-effective, transparent, and sustainable manner
